Summary Aikidó 1/2002

Miroslav Kodym: SHIHAN MORIHIRO SAITO, the 9th AIKIKAI DAN (1928-2002)
Based on foreign sources the author compiled an obituary to an outstanding Ueshiba's successor who has died in Iwama, May 13, 2002. Iwama, the place where the founder settled in 1942, is the cradle of aikido. Shihan Saito has been practicing aikido for almost 60 years, 23 of them under the founder's leadership. Since the seventieth (when retired) he performed more than 50 tutorials outside Japan. He wrote "Traditional Aikido" in 5 volumes in 1973-1976, where a great attention is paid to the armed training. His aikido style is called Iwama Ryu. Discussions on different approaches to the traditional and modern aikido and comparison of their various techniques are mentioned next.
